Douglas D. Davila

Tejano Music Artist  ·  Houston, TX

Douglas D. Davila, a native Houstonian, was born and raised in the vibrant Southeast end neighborhood of Second Ward. The son of Mrs. Paula and Mr. Ruben C. Davila Sr., Douglas was destined for a life steeped in music from an early age. His journey into the world of music began when, at just 6 years old, he was captivated by the iconic sounds of Tejano music playing on the family sound system during a backyard barbecue. It was at that moment that Douglas realized he would dedicate himself to becoming part of the music he so loved.

As he grew, Douglas honed his musical skills, starting with the trumpet after signing up for band class in school. His dedication to mastering the instrument quickly became apparent, and by junior high, he was performing with the school's Jazz Combo, impressing both peers and instructors alike.

In 1986, with encouragement from his high school music teacher, Douglas auditioned for the local Tejano band, Grupo Lumbre, as a trumpet player. His talent and passion earned him a spot in the band, leading to his first paid performance at the Houston Brewery Tap. His role in Grupo Lumbre expanded over time, transitioning from trumpet to saxophone.

In 1989, Douglas transitioned from Grupo Lumbre to a brief residency with the Silverado Band, further expanding his musical experiences and adding his first attempt at backup vocals — an enhancing experience that opened new doors.

From 1990 to 1992, Douglas played with Sueño Band, a band that would soon evolve into JP & Sueño. This pivotal period saw various band members from the former group Josefa joining their rehearsals, giving Douglas and the other members a chance to "sit at the master's feet" and learn. That influence always stayed with him.

In 1993, Douglas transitioned to the LA Boyz (Latin American Boyz), which later became La Traizión Band. With La Traizión, Douglas expanded his skills and cultivated a newfound love for vocals, becoming more proactive in his spiritual and musical expression. La Traizion signed with BMG US Latin New York, releasing two albums: Quiero Amarte in 1994 and Solo Contigo in 1995.

In 1996, Douglas joined Grupo Fiel, which had signed with Bravo Records. As the frontman and lead vocalist for Grupo Fiel, Douglas sharpened his vocal prowess, culminating in a live performance on The Domingo Show in Corpus Christi in 2004. One of the proudest moments of his career came when he heard his voice on Texas radio for the first time, singing "Soy El Hombre."

Douglas's vocal talents helped propel Grupo Fiel to new heights, including performances at the historical Houston Annual Chicano Festival — a festival deeply rooted in Hispanic/Latino activism that uses culture and music to unite the community. Between 1996 and 2005, Grupo Fiel was honored to open twice for iconic Tejano bands of the era.

In 2004, Douglas began a collaborative relationship with Grammy award-winning icon Bob Gallarza. Under Bob's mentorship, Douglas refined his vocal techniques and lent his voice to the Grammy-nominated song "A Puro Tragos." This partnership continued periodically until Bob's passing in 2021 — notably, Bob's last production was the single "Comprende Cariño" featuring Douglas on vocals.

By 2007, Douglas could no longer deny his true calling — one that went beyond performing to something more profound. He left Grupo Fiel to commit himself to a musical life dedicated to God. He is currently a music minister at the Catholic Charismatic Center.

In 2011, Douglas recorded his first solo English album, I Trust In YOU — a testament to his spiritual journey, with the single "You're the One" standing out as a deeply personal reflection of his spiritual conversion. He also collaborated with Fernando Silva in his group Amor Tejano, featuring Christian messages in the Tejano format.

In 2021, Douglas reconnected with his lifelong best friend and former Grupo Fiel bandmate, David "Dave" Hernandez Jr., shortly after the passing of Dave's father. Their collaboration on "No Es Fácil," featuring El Mariachi Imperial de America, garnered 3,000 views. Dave then invited Douglas to become the frontman and lead vocalist for his new band, The Texas Movement.

In July 2024, following a 72-hour round trip from Houston to Mexico, The Texas Movement and La Raza Mty recorded their first landmark collaboration: "Te Amo, Te Adoro."
